Christian Financial Counsel
There are many guidelines in God’s Word for seeking and selecting good counsel. The purpose of counsel is to aid us in making our decisions, not to actually make them for us.
"A wise man will hear and increase in learning, and a man of understanding will acquire wise counsel" (Proverbs 1:5).
We need to think about money the way God thinks about money. An adjusted view of money and material possessions is part of the renewing of the mind that God intends for us as we grow spiritually (Romans 12:2). Financial decisions can actually be one of the most effective means of drawing close to God and glorifying Him.
Practical steps
Set life style goals based on your life purpose. Whatever you determine God expects you to do with your financial freedom, make sure you are setting your current spiritual, physical, financial goals in that direction.
Balance work with time for healthy relationships. If we don’t have balanced lives, we can’t give important areas focus such as our family relationships, managing financial matters and growing relationships with others.
Grow in spiritual disciplines. Certainly, spending time in God’s word is important because this is how God speaks to us. Among other ways God speaks to us are through prayer and through relationships with other Christians. Spending time with God will provide us direction for our lives.
Learning to be responsible stewards of the finances that God has entrusted to us is a difficult challenge for many Christians. You however don't need to be alone struggling with financial decisions. The Bible encourages us to seek wisdom and counsel. You need to find someone with similar values as you. Working with a competent Christian financial advisor to help you with investing can be very advantageous when trying to maximize investment performance.
